CLEANING CAR WHEELS

Missed the Oprah premiere show - will not be going to Australia with John Travolta, Bummer! But did catch the Judd's for a short time on today's show. Wow! How come I do not have the energy level they have? This 'mature women' stuff really sucks. Much of my energy lately has been spent going to or waiting in doctor's offices; first a TB test in two stages to satisfy an application requirement and today was the eye doctor. Good news is my vision is much the same, bad news is I need eye drops and Restatis! And I have to go back in three months for a checkup. Another appointment, there is no end!

Because it is September (finally), and the days are far more temperate, I managed to get the rugs shampooed without mishap last week and got the garage swept out Sunday morning. Having the power-scrubber charged up, I also got the urge to clean my car wheels.
Yes, I thought that was a bit extreme too, but every time I go to the drive-thru car wash, the car gets clean but the wheels look worse by comparison. And why not with more than ten years of grime and grease? So, once every decade or so, it is time to clean those fancy alloy-something wheels.
While waiting for the appointed time at the eye doctor this morning I could not resist the opportunity to photograph my clean wheels. Look closely, I may not ever get the urge again.

Heard from my west coast SDIL* today who tells me about Pandora radio. Why had no one told be before? Just last week I find out about The Embers and their Shag music and now another music source. Already signed up and have "radio tunes playing" by Tina Turner, The Beach Boys, The Embers and, of course Jimmy Buffett. Speaking of which. . . .

My newest read is an amazing book about Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffett and Philosophy: The Porpoise Driven Life by Erin McKenna (Editor), Scott L. Pratt (Editor), 2009.

I was late in discovering Buffett's music and now appreciate his Shag and West Coast Swing rhythms but somehow I missed this book last year. In his earlier memoir Buffett writes that a mid-western college professor teaches geography via his music and novel settings. I began to wonder if you could devise a workout routine to his music as well? And it turns out you can and I did. Spent most of the day playing and revising a dance list for exercising. Will test it out tomorrow at the gym and see how the moves fit the tempo, or vice versa. Stay tuned....I may be wasting away in Margaritaville but the exercising never stops.

DH must be getting bored with my salad suppers because he just found a local "mussel" restaurant; no kidding. They serve mostly mussels from four different recipe choices. One of my most memorable meals was lunch in Brussels on an overcast cool day. Dikker and Thys lunch room offered steamed mussels with brown bread and beer. The bread was thick, chewy, hard crust with fresh butter, just the way fresh baked bread should be. The beer was medium dark with an aroma to die for and hearty in flavor. But the mussels, I have never before or since have had mussels that tasted so good.

Tonight will be a major taste test. Either they pass or I give up mussels until I'm back in Brussels again. Getting hungry already.
