TWENTY and counting....

The big finale to our twentieth-wedding anniversary celebration was the Triangle Swing Dance Society’s dance at the Armory in Durham. Hubby and I went early to catch the 7 pm lesson by Richard Badu, soon to be our teacher Wednesday nights at the Arts Center in Carrboro. Plus our being newly-joined members we were admitted to TADS’s Holiday Party free of charge. This was our chance to see Richard in action with a large group (36 count), and learn first hand something about his teaching style. Within twenty minutes Badu had the couples dancing the basic single time swing, doing an under-arm (he calls ‘arch’), turns and rotating, all the essentials of swing. More about swing in this area at NCSwing. After a promo demo by Badu and his partner Dana, the live band - Mickey & his Mighty Men - kicked in for the next two hours+ of swing music. Hubby was terrific, we launched into a fast fox trot on the first number and took half the floor, he was in command like never before.

While our anniversary was actually Thursday, that date was prempted by the investment club holiday party at Mary A.’s house. Terrific hostess, magnificent house and lots of news, but we saved Friday night for our intimate dinner at The Lantern. We’ve gone there for our anniversary for the last few years unlike the Edwards who get a cheeseburger at Wendy’s. We have never had a bad meal there and my dinner of "Miso glazed black cod with roasted fresh black mushrooms, local bok choy, sake butter and jasmine rice" could not have been better. Oolong Green tea completed the meal and while I admit looking at the dessert menu, we opted to forgo those choices and head home.

After a dance class with Badu on Wednesday, the gym-dance class with Claudia on Thursday, a weight workout on Friday morning, Aquacise with Noriko on Saturday, the TSDS dance Saturday night, and another weight workout Sunday morning, I’ve had it for the week. It is any wonder that I fell asleep during Playmakers on Sunday afternoon (?).

The play "The Little Prince," by Antoine de St. Exupéry, a French-writer and WWII flyer, is a children’s story I read in French class and was not expecting much. Good thing because hubby (who did stay awake) was underwhelmed. After a doze-y theater experience we headed home to an early dinner and long winter night’s sleep. Christmas is coming is just a few days....
