The other issue to write about is my right leg. Not that you are all that interested, I know, but it has begun to cramp with pressure give the nerves a pinch now and again. After my second steroid spinal injection last year I asked the doctor to give me a five-year dosage. Just about a year later the symptoms are back (?). For some time I thought maybe I had stressed the muscles or my shoes were not supporting my ankles, then I though my trainer had overstretched the leg and pulled a muscle – now I know it is none of the above. The periformis muscle is swelling and pressing on the sciatica nerve which telegraphs shooting pains down through the ham strings. Why not call the doctor you ask?
Because the doctor already found the cause of chronic leg pains; a malformed Lumbar-5 vertebrae about which nothing can be done. Take pain pills and rest the leg. Bummer.
Not a good day for blogging is it? Not everything is so painful. This blabbing due to the fact that I finished the quilt top and back piecing for step-son David’s December birthday quilt.
The top began with a linen tea towel, a calendar towel for the year of his birth, 1963. Must now wait for long-arm pro-quilter Jan to have free time to do the top stitching which will not be until after the October quilt show entries are done. The backing uses a found piece of broad strip joined with a strip of scrappy four-patches and a plaid in the same grayish blue as the strip. Still have to decide on the edge binding but that’s not a major problem.

Meantime, what to do next?
Have cut fabric to make blocks; also have several stacks of blocks made but incomplete numbers to comprise anything major; want something “small and simple,” all the while knowing that nothing I begin stays small or simple for long. One pieced beginning for a table runner is a prospect – it’s too long and I hate the colors but it offers opportunity to slice and rearrange and make something spectacular from something rather ordinary. That will take more effort than I have at the moment.

Did complete wrapping and packing all the green depression glassware I had in the house, save a few pieces that I actually do use. The reason? Years ago thanks to a sister-I-L who collects Ruby red glassware, Jan began to collect Forest green, I chose to acquire Cobalt blue. Somehow in the ensuing years I too gained green glassware as I inherited green-trimmed dishware and green linens. Seeing that I now have a stash of each green and blue, the obvious decision was “which?” There will not be room for double glassware in the small villa and I have already given away dishes galore. My choice was to keep the blue and pass the green on to sister, Jan. Since she’s the one with display cases in her dining room, she gets to rearrange all the glasses and enhance her collection. I will be happy with what blue I have found and worse case scenario – I might have to shop for more!
Those blue/floral “good” dishes that I rarely use are to become our daily dishes; leftover from a previous marriage why am I saving them? And what for? since this is likely to be my last home if not now, when?

Trying to make a date with sister, Jan and friend Robbie to see “Eat, Pray, Love,” on Tuesday before the film moves out. The last movie I made the effort to see in a theater was “Julia,” and still haven’t seen “Nine.” But what I really want to see is “Pillars of the Earth;” not available on DVD disc, yet.
Tomorrow, Monday August 16 will mark the last time I DJ the Afternoon Ballroom practice time at the Seymour Center (Mondays are cancelled until after Labor Day). Do plan to continue broadcasting dance events to the E-Dance list for the replacement DJ Bruce. DH does not want to be tied to a weekly schedule in the event we want to sell the house this year. And once we get moved to the ‘ole age home,’ or the villa, will organize dances in the retirement community. Or my dance days may be coming to an end after this fall (bummer again).
Today is Sunday, where’s the NYTimes Magazine? Got to go….bb
