Apple 2
The reported Apple Crisp, made with a few adjustments, was consumed for dessert last night and again tonight. The dish diminishes before my eyes, suggesting it must have been a good thing.
After the ambitious Sunday morning excursion to the UNC Gym for thirty minutes of walking and the total weight-resistance workout, I could not wait to shower and get back home. Yes, I was hungry but more importantly, I just had to read.
Oprah's show on Friday featured Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of "Eat Pray Love." Finished Part 1 late Saturday night and was all ready to read Part 2 today.
Somehow, reading and absorbing this book are not the same thing. I read for a while and then reach for a yellow pad and pencil. Make notes. Draw flow charts. Try to outline my crazy life. Go back to read more of the book. Underline. Make more notes. This is absurd. No book in recent years has captured my imagination like this one.
What have I learned? First, after 14 months of a nutrition-plan developed painstakingly with a nutritionist, I will not eat with abandon, in Italy or anywhere else. But I would like to.
Second, in the search for the meaning of life, I am not going to an Ashram in India and scrub floors or sit still for hours. But I would like to think I could(?).
Third, Bali may be very beautiful but I do not think I will get there. I haven't finished Part 3 yet. But I want to.
I also wonder about the author. Does Liz Gilbert dance? A slow-waltz or a spirited Salsa? Instead of searching for her "word" what if she found her note, or song, or dance, or poem? She ascribes the word ACHIEVE to New York City. My search is to ascribe HOME to some place on this planet. I have not found that place. But I would like to.
