STRIPS HAPPEN

A short time ago I got a call from a lady updating my school's alumni directory - she asked what my professional title was now - Ha! Then she said "I see it's been 18 years since you graduated."
What? How can this be? After that shockaroo - who cares if I am listed in the Alumni Directory? And as for a professional title, how about 'retired but fit old lady who is the manager in charge of moving a household?'
Yeah, right!

This morning was my "medical procedure," a small one considering as I was in a 8 am and out by 9 am but it was stressful none the less. I'm done for the next few months EXCEPT I must schedule a colonoscopy for later in the year. 2012 is a major year for medical tests, renewing drivers license and passport. Not that I am going anywhere very soon. Home now and feeling much better.

Strips Happen, One Row at a time

Had a thought yesterday. The Triangle Modern Quilt Guild meets on Sunday evening and I was thinking about a Round-Robin or some volunteer activity that would result in donation quilts (hospitals, veterans, etc.).

The photo at right is from 2003 when the 'church ladies' and I did a process where one quilter patched  1 foot by about 60" wide, passing that strip to a second quilter who added 1 foot to the first and so on, until at least 5 strips were completed. The challenge was that each quilter passed on the leftover scraps to be used in the next strip - any fabrics could be added but the previous fabric scraps had to be given first consideration.
The result was a square, brightly colored, scrappy quilt that is used as a "Caring Quilt" for anyone in recovery or seriously ill (I've never been that ill). You see the strips vertical as we hung it sideways for display, but usually they are horizontal, as the sample below.

One Row after Another
My dilemma is this: I cannot sew until we move. I put the sewing machine away this week, boxed up more fabrics and began boxing quilt books. The next sewing project will happen after I set up the new studio which may not be until May or June.  Yes, I know that is SIX MONTHS without textile therapy.  I think I can do it.
So, do I submit a proposal for this kind of a guild project at the next meeting? OR wait until we are set in the new location and I can actually sew some strips and get the "round robin" of strips underway. My participation would not be required per se, but if I acted as the coordinator I pretty much should be involved.
You are right; not yet. Maybe focusing on photography will keep me busy for the next few months. And house cleaning for the realtor's showings.
Ugh!!!  bb
